The house and its history |
(Cont..) ”The 18th Century wing is built with a cellar beneath. Brittleware is a most interesting 16th Century farmhouse, retaining many original and good quality features. It is in good condition and is an important house because it shows so clearly its original structure and development. There are few houses in Surrey which retain a central smoke bay intact and a cross passage behind.” |

Note - I’ve found lots of old pot, but I suspect that it’s all there because the residents, who during most of the 19th and 20th centuries were tenants of some sort or other, used the back door as a place to throw stuff onto the “midden”. Up by the pond is lots of brick and metal debris - purpose wholly unknown as yet. |
